In Memorium Sister M. Clement Fine

 

Obituary for Sr. Mary Clement Fine, OLM

Sister Mary Clement Fine, a Sister of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy, died at May Forest, the Motherhouse of the Congregation on August 27, 2011.  Sr. Clement, formerly Mary Pauline Fine, was born in Livermore, Iowa on June 29, 1914 to Edward Joseph and Marie Camilla DePaula Fine.  A second honor graduate of North Charleston High School, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin from Mt. St. Joseph’s College, Cincinnati, OH and a Master of Science degree in Library Science from Villanova University, Pennsylvania. Sister also attended Winthrop University, Rock Hill, SC where she earned a Certificate in Elementary Education.

 

Sister Clement entered the convent on June 15, 1936. She professed her first vows on February 2, 1939 and final vows March 25, 1949.   Sister Clement became a professional educator who taught at the Cathedral School and Sacred Heart School in Charleston, SC as well as St. Mary’s School, Greenville, SC, St. Anne’s School, Sumter, SC, St. Mary Help of Christian School, Aiken, SC, Christ Our King/Stella Maris School, Mt. Pleasant, SC, and St. Michael’s School, Gibbstown, NJ.   She also served as a Catechist at St. Anthony’s Parish, Hightstown, NJ and was the Librarian for St. Michael’s School, Gibbstown, NJ, St. Anne’s School, Sumter, SC as well as Sacred Heart School, Charleston, SC and St. Mary Help of Christian School, Aiken, SC.  Sister Clement was a long time member of the Catholic Library Association and National Library Association.  In retirement, Sister Clement was an active participant in the prayer ministry of the Motherhouse community of the Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy.

Sister was predeceased by her parents and siblings and is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins and her sisters in community, The Sisters of Charity of Our Lady of Mercy. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach Center, PO Box 607, Johns Island, SC 29457.

The Mass of Christian burial will be held at May Forest, Motherhouse Chapel on August 30, 2011.
Friends are invited to call at the Motherhouse, 424 Fort Johnson Rd. Charleston, SC Monday, August 29, 2011 from 3PM to 5:30 PM.  A Vigil Service will be held at the Motherhouse on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 7 PM.

 

The Rite of Committal will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.  Arrangements by James McAlister Funeral Home.
